The Story of the Echo Tree Remix

I fell in love with a girl from Germany. We would walk from her parent’s house in the Westerwald to the enchanted forest path nearby. On the way we would stop at the Echo Tree.
Our name for the tree came from the echoes we heard as we stood next to it and called out phrases into the vast expanse of the listening hills. It became a symbol of our love, and the inspiration for the song Echo Tree that concludes the first Marcsonic album Next Level.
I always wanted to remix songs from that album by putting the separated instrument tracks into Ableton Live and playing with the riffs and sounds. The dilemma with the Echo Tree song was in choosing which of the song parts would get into the remix.
After trying various bits in the sampler, it was the ending of the track that got my attention. The last part of the song is always evocative of my fond memory of recording it. We were nearly done with the album up north in Rich Mattson’s Sparta Sound studio. Kordula (my German girl) harmonized with me on the final section of the song, a symbolic and beautiful way to end a great experience.
Kordula’s vocal track emerged as the main focus of the remix with my voice and the guitars branching off from her clear and comforting vocal. I threw in a doctored drum loop, and voila! A new song was born from a love that still echoes across the silver seas. I hope you like it.
